The Story of THE SLAVA CUP

THE SLAVA CUP
"It's what we play(ed) for!"

The Slava Cup has a long and storied history with the FNHC. Originally made of an Absopure water bottle, a coffee can, a couple tuna cans and a mixing bowl on top, The Slava Cup exemplifies the very nature of the FNHC. The cup has traveled all over the United States and once was abducted and taken on a tour of the frigid Upper Peninsula of Michigan by a disgruntled former FNHC player who lost his skills and attempted to take his frustration out on the FNHC because he no longer had the ability to compete on such a low hockey level.

The Slava Cup was originally crafted for the 1997 FNHC Playoff Series. Honed by the soft hands of the once proud Slava from an Absopure water bottle, a coffee can, a couple tuna cans and a mixing bowl on top The Slava Cup was once an honored symbol of "what we play for!" In recognition of the soft and steady hand of Slava needed to forge such a proud and fitting trophy, The Slava Cup cannot be touched by another man's hand and so it is carried only by a white-gloved Slava Cup Champion player as it makes its annual travels with the reigning Friday Night Hockey Club Champs.

On Friday May 8, 2009 the once-honorable Slava Cup was defiled and tainted forever by an egregious, unsportsmanlike and childish display of conduct unbecoming of the FNHC by the maker of The Cup himself, Slava, as he broke the time-honored tradition of offering The Cup to the FNHC playoff victors (The LiteSide) to enjoy over the summer with their family and friends. Instead, he took it home under the pretense of a spur-of-the-moment, fabricated, FNHC bylaw claiming that The Cup will heretofore remain in Slava's basement during the off-season where only he can enjoy it although he was on the losing team in 2009 thus marking the beginning of a new, one-person-only tradition of Slava Cup enjoyment and giving all new, albeit tainted, new meaning to "The SLAVA Cup."
