16th SEASON

Lincoln Park, MI - It is with profound sadness that the FNHC League Offices announced today that the FNHC's beloved octogenarian Pops has decided to retire from the league. Pops has been a fixture at the FNHC for the past 10 years and a regular at the Ice Box in Brownstown many decades before. He will always be remembered for hopping over the boards to get on and off the ice all through his 70s and even at 80."We all love and respect Pops for his passion for hockey, his diligence in showing up every week and his fearsome wrist-shot that he perfected over 8 decades of hockey," the FNHC Commissioner said through teary eyes and fighting back a frown. "We will be alright though, we'll move on, the FNHC shall continue. This is not a time for sadness, but a time to celebrate Pops' FNHC career, a time to reflect on all of the great goals, the assists and yes the follies of his storied career in the FNHC.
"I'm going to miss the guys, but I've got a lot of great memories and will always hold the FNHC dear in my heart," said Pops in his retirement remarks. "I won't miss Tool Time's slapshots whizzing by my head and through my legs, I won't miss Slava acting like he has hockey skills and I definitely won't miss Ivan's whiny-ass excuses for missing every other week and watching him turtle whenever threatened on the ice. As I said, the memories are great overall, but there are some forgettable moments as well. All my best to the FNHC!"

Title: Commish
Toughest thing to handle in my years here on the job. He still plays in a Monday league and I can assure you discussions have begun as to how to properly honor his dedication to the game.

Title: FNHCHOF
I second the motion. Pops is like our Gordie Howe. A long and storied hockey career from the days when hockey players were men until now. Gordie inspired all hockey players by playing professionally into his 70s. Pops topped that by playing in the rough and tumble FNHC into his 80s. Congrats Pops and all the best in your off ice adventures!
